Project Title: Girls Who Grieve: Healing Through Connection
Project Description:
Girls Who Grieve is a structured emotional wellness program serving girls ages 8-17 who are navigating father absence due to death, incarceration, divorce, or emotional estrangement. Many of the girls we serve experience unresolved grief that impacts their confidence, academic engagement, and emotional regulation. Yet preventative, relationship-centered programming for girls coping with father loss remains scarce.
The program provides a 6-week healing cohort model that combines guided journaling, facilitated discussion circles, creative expression (art and movement), and mentorship. Each cohort is led by trained facilitators and supported by community volunteers who model healthy adult relationships. Girls learn tools for emotional processing, communication, identity development, and resilience.
Hermanowski Foundation funding would directly support two 6-week cohorts serving 60 girls annually, including curriculum materials, journals, facilitator stipends, space rental, evaluation tools, and scholarships for low- to moderate-income participants.
Measurable outcomes include:
Increased emotional literacy and coping skills
Improved self-reported confidence and sense of belonging
Strengthened communication within the home
At the Him & Me Foundation, we believe every girl deserves to feel protected, loved, and worthy — through the power of presence. Girls Who Grieve moves beyond one-day inspiration to sustained healing support. By addressing grief early, we reduce long-term mental health risks and strengthen the relational stability of the home.
This project is preventative youth mental health intervention rooted in connection, dignity, and long-term impact.
