Project Title: Rural Youth Rising: Building Confidence, Leadership, and Mental Wellness
Project Description:
This project expands access to structured AAU travel basketball programming that combines athletic development with mentorship, leadership training, and positive youth engagement for participants from underserved communities. Many of the young people we serve face financial barriers, limited access to safe extracurricular activities, and a lack of consistent mentorship opportunities. Our program addresses these challenges by providing a supportive, team-centered environment where youth develop confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility both on and off the court.
Through organized practices, competitive tournaments, and mentorship-focused coaching, participants build technical basketball skills while strengthening communication, teamwork, and leadership abilities. The program intentionally emphasizes character development and academic accountability, encouraging athletes to apply lessons learned through sport to their daily lives, schools, and communities. By removing participation barriers such as travel costs, equipment needs, and facility access, we ensure that youth who might otherwise be excluded can fully participate and benefit from a positive, structured environment.
Funding will support essential program components including tournament registration, transportation, uniforms, training space, and leadership development activities. The anticipated outcomes include increased youth participation, high retention rates, measurable skill progression, and improved confidence and community engagement among participants.
Ultimately, this project seeks to create lasting impact by equipping young people with the tools needed to become resilient, community-minded leaders. Success will be evaluated through participant retention, development benchmarks, and feedback from families and community partners, ensuring the program continues to deliver meaningful, measurable outcomes aligned with the Hermanowski Foundation’s commitment to strengthening youth and communities.
