Project Title: Creating a Life Plan
Project Description:
Founded in 1997 by a former news anchor and award-winning journalist, Jennifer Valoppi, the Women of Tomorrow Mentor and Scholarship Program has upheld its mission to inspire, motivate, and empower at-risk young women to live up to their full potential through a unique group mentoring program with highly accomplished professional women and scholarship opportunities. Due to the pandemic, Women of Tomorrow (WOT) has shifted to virtual mentoring, workshops, and field trips. We are committed to meeting our students’ current needs and continuing to assist them in planning for their futures.
The Women of Tomorrow Program currently collaborate with twenty-four public schools in Palm Beach County, with the majority of participants being minority students who come from low-income homes. Most will be the first in their family to graduate from high school, helping to end the historical cycle of insufficiency. While our program was carefully designed and based on research, its ongoing success is due to our continual curriculum development commitment. Our mentoring program is aligned with several critical evidence-based best practices, including a relationship-based mentoring model that ensures a steady source of support, acts as a bridge through high school and advanced education, and provides a smooth transition into the workforce.
Grant funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation will help WOT in our efforts to develop further our "Creating a Life Plan" curriculum. Through this, our students are introduced to multiple pathways to success, including college, technical college, and vocational training. The goal is to share career opportunities that provide a path out of poverty and a sense of personal satisfaction. Coupled with the feeling of connectedness brought about from participation in the WOT program, this curriculum helps our girls find the courage and inspiration to change their lives’ trajectory and become successful community members.
