Project Title: Expanding Social-Emotional Learning Capacity in Schools
Project Description:
Changing Perspectives is a national direct-service nonprofit that partners with public, private, and charter schools to promote social-emotional learning (SEL) and cultivate inclusive, equitable learning communities in which all students can thrive. Since 2014, we have equipped schools with practical, research-informed tools that strengthen the five core SEL competencies: self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, and relationship skills—skills that help students manage emotions, build empathy, form positive relationships, and make ethical choices that support academic success and lifelong well-being.
As educators nationwide report rising student anxiety, social isolation, and behavioral challenges – amid mounting pressures and limited resources – schools are seeking coherent, sustainable SEL solutions. We meet this need by offering flexible supports that strengthen classroom practice and build educator capacity. Since 2014, we have partnered with more than 1,100 schools across 49 states and 10 countries, reaching over 26,000 educators and 700,000 students.
Our customizable suite of services includes a PreK–12 SEL curriculum, accessible for educators online, with standards-aligned lessons and activities; professional development for teachers, counselors, and administrators; individualized coaching and technical assistance; and family engagement workshops. Together, these supports help schools move beyond isolated lessons toward an integrated, school-wide approach to SEL.
Independent evaluations from 2024–2025 demonstrate strong impact: 96% of educators reported high student engagement; 93% gained new strategies to support student well-being; and 95% of administrators reported increased school capacity and improved alignment around SEL.
We seek philanthropic support to expand and sustain these services, ensuring that more schools can embed SEL into daily practice and create environments where all students are supported, engaged, and prepared to succeed. By making a grant of $10,000 at this time, the Hermanowski Family Foundation will help make it possible for Changing Perspectives to reach up to 100,000 students in the upcoming school year.
