Project Title: Hermanowski Family Foundation Scholarship Fund
Project Description:

Founded in 1982, the George Snow Scholarship Fund (GSSF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit located in Boca Raton, Florida, whose mission is: We treat scholars like family; improving lives and impacting generational change through personalized scholarships and support services. Our goal is to ensure that no Broward County or Palm Beach County, Florida student is deprived of a post-secondary education because of a shortage of funds. GSSF scholarships are four-year commitments and designed to bridge the gap between other financial aid and what the scholar and their families can afford. Typically, scholarships include $10,000 annually for tuition and up to $750 for a one-time, non-reoccurring emergency fund (e.g., medical bills, etc.).

According to U.S. News & World Report (2023), over the past 20 years inflation-adjusted tuition and fees at private national universities have increased 40%, out-of-state public national universities by 38% and in-state public national universities by 56%. These increases are outpacing the ability for average families to enroll their students in college, much less low-income families. Equitable access to higher education is compounded by the income inequality gap. According to United Way (Palm Beach County and Broward County 2025), 46% of Palm Beach County households and 50% of Broward County households struggle to make ends meet. Without taking on the burden of student loans, higher education is unattainable for many. The 2024 national average balance of federal student loan borrowers is $35,210. Florida has the fifth highest average of all states at $37,709. (The Institute for College Access and Success)

GSSF seeks to bridge the gap between the cost of pursuing higher education and financial aid packages to assist low-income, at-risk students in paying for college, university or vocational school. In 2025, we awarded 374 scholarships totaling over $5.5 million.
