Project Title: STEAM After School Program
Project Description:
Expanding Boundaries International (EBI) respectfully requests $10,000 to fund our STEAM After School Program. Headquartered in Westminster, Maryland, EBI bridges the opportunity gap for underserved youth in Carroll County and Baltimore through high-level technological education and cross-cultural exchange.
The need for this intervention is urgent. In Carroll County, approximately 27.9 percent of students qualify for Free and Reduced Price Meals (FARMS), yet local enrichment costs average over $21,000 annually. In Baltimore City, the youth poverty rate stands at 29.5 percent. EBI removes these financial barriers by providing free, project-based learning in robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), and coding. Our signature STEAM Exchange allows Maryland students to collaborate virtually with peers in Ghana, fostering 21st-century skills and global empathy.
Our results demonstrate a profound, long-term transformation in our students. EBI supports over 400 youth annually, maintaining an impressive 80 to 90 percent attendance rate. Most notably, 80 percent of our students stay with the program from middle school through high school graduation, often returning as mentors. This retention proves that our curriculum successfully prepares students for the global workforce.
As a 100 percent volunteer-led organization with zero payroll expenses, a grant from the Hermanowski Foundation will be utilized entirely for student toolkits, robotics components, and program resources for our 2026 cycle. By funding EBI, you are investing in a proven model that turns local students into global citizens. We do not just teach technology. We expand the boundaries of what these young people believe is possible for their futures.
