Project Title: Love Quilts & Educational Support for Children in Foster Care
Project Description:

The Love Quilt Project (LQP) supports the educational and emotional well-being of children living in foster care in the United States and South Africa through a unique blend of creative expression, compassion-based education, and direct educational assistance.

Through our cross-cultural arts education program, students in U.S. classrooms learn about the experiences of children in foster care and reflect on empathy, resilience, and global connection. Students create fabric art squares filled with messages of hope, love, and encouragement. These squares are transformed by volunteer quilters and our production partners into one-of-a-kind handmade quilts.

Each completed Love Quilt is gifted to a child living in foster care, providing warmth, comfort, and a tangible reminder that they are seen, valued, and supported. The program is reciprocal: children in foster care also create their own art squares, sharing messages of encouragement with other children facing similar challenges, reinforcing dignity, connection, and mutual empathy.

In addition to emotional support, LQP provides financial assistance for educational needs. In the United States, LQP partners with foster care organizations to support tutoring and mental health services, including counseling and art therapy.

In 2025 alone, LQP delivered over 250 handmade quilts to children in the United States and engaged thousands of students in compassion-based learning. Funding from this grant will support the creation and distribution of Love Quilts, educational programming, and direct educational assistance for our United States programming, helping children in foster care build resilience, stay in school, and experience the power of compassion.
