Project Title: Child Screening Service with Early Mental Health Component
Project Description:
Goodwill Easterseals Miami Valley’s Child Screening Services (CSS) with Early Childhood Mental Health
(ECMH) identifies developmental delays and behavioral health concerns in children ages 0–5. Program staff
conduct free developmental and mental health screenings in area childcare centers, checking for indications
that a child has reached appropriate developmental milestones. If milestones are delayed or unmet, referrals
are made for appropriate intervention services. The goal is that children will have caught up with their
typically developing peers by the time they enter school. The program also includes Therapeutic Intervention
Preschool (TIP) classrooms for children with significant needs. TIP classrooms provide intensive support to
prepare students for mainstream education by maintaining high teacher to student ratios and staffing
classrooms with early childhood mental health professionals. Services are free to families and focus on
underserved communities in the Miami Valley.
