Project Title: The King’s Academy – Education and Wraparound Services for Children in South Dallas
Project Description:

The King’s Academy (TKA) exists to meet the urgent educational and social needs of children in South Dallas, one of the most under-resourced communities in Dallas County. Dallas has the highest childhood poverty rate in the nation at 38%, and within the 75215-zip code, 33% of adults lack a high school diploma. Nearly half of local children are projected to face incarceration before age 25, and many enter school significantly behind academically due to underperforming schools, excessive absenteeism, exposure to trauma, and limited access to basic resources. The South Dallas community is both a food desert and an education desert, where generational poverty and systemic barriers severely restrict opportunities for children.
TKA provides an affordable, Christ-centered alternative for families seeking a rigorous, faith-based education. We currently serve students in PreK3–6th grade (girls and boys,100% children of color; 74% living at or below the poverty line) and plan to expand by one grade each year until reaching 12th grade. Many of our children are from single-parent homes, impacted by incarceration and academic deficiencies upon enrollment. These students need a school that will help them overcome obstacles to learning and meet their varied academic needs through differentiated instruction, smaller classes, family support, and a strong social/emotional program. Our small class sizes and wraparound model address students’ academic, emotional, and physical needs through early literacy intervention, tutoring, STEM curriculum, social-emotional learning, nutritious meals, transportation, counseling referrals, and family support. By integrating academic excellence with holistic care—and ensuring financial barriers never hinder access—TKA equips students to grow in confidence, character, and faith. Ultimately, TKA is breaking cycles of poverty, low educational attainment, food insecurity, and incarceration by preparing children not only for college and career, but for a life of purpose and impact.
