Project Title: Saftey Net For At Risk Youth
Project Description:

Funding will support a food pantry for youth and young adults who are aging out of the child welfare system. These young adults are 16-21 and are being launched into adulthood without the typical safety net a family would provide. Along with all the regular stresses this age group deals with such as finding their first jobs, applying for colleges etc.. these young adults are also having to contend with food insecurity. This population lacks the transportation to access other food pantries. Having a pantry that is easily accessible to them inside their residence helps reduce stigma as it does not require them to stand in line in public view. The funding we are requesting will allow us to shop for their specific needs and desired foods assisting them with food access as they are adjusting to living in their first apartments. We are requesting $3,000 which will allow us to spend $300 each week to stock this pantry with their requested items for 10 weeks. This food pantry has now been in existence for two years and has received very positive feedback from the youth and young adults who utilize this resource.
