Project Title: ThrivePath: Trauma-Informed Arts & Mentorship Program
Project Description:
ThrivePath is a trauma-informed arts and mentorship initiative serving over 200 high school students ages 14-18 at Global Leadership Academy High School, a Title I public charter school in Jacksonville, Florida. All GLA HS students qualify for free or reduced lunch, over 40% come from single-parent households, and many have experienced significant Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), including poverty, family instability, violence exposure, displacement, and refugee trauma.
ThrivePath provides a structured, healing-centered environment where youth build emotional resilience and positive identity through theatre, music, visual arts, and one-on-one mentorship. Trained educators and counseling staff guide students through weekly arts-based therapeutic sessions- mask-making, improvisation, trauma mapping, abstract painting, rhythm, songwriting, and full theatrical productions such as Alice in Wonderland and a one-act festival piece.
Students work closely with mentors who support them through life planning, emotional regulation, and relationship building.
The program also includes trauma-informed caregiver workshops, reflective journaling, family engagement, and counseling check-ins led by school counselor Synetta Lawson, MS. A culminating Community Healing Showcase shares student performances and art installations, promoting community dialogue around resilience, healing, and youth voice.
A $10,000 grant would directly support program materials, trauma-informed arts supplies, student journals, performance needs, and mentorship resources.
ThrivePath addresses a critical gap in accessible mental health and emotional supports for vulnerable youth and aligns with the Foundation’s mission to improve and transform the lives of children and young adults in the United States.
