Project Description:
The Mulligan Foundation is a nonprofit founded by former PGA Tour professional Steve Wheatcroft to make mental fitness as routine as practice across the golf community. Our mission is to support athletes, families, coaches, and schools from first swings through college, the professional ranks, and career transition—so kids learn skills early, get help sooner, and carry healthy habits into life.
We deliver an age-spanning Mental Health Pipeline:
• Ages 5–12 (First Tee): short, game-based activities that teach emotion regulation, focus, and sportsmanship; parent huddles and coach cue cards reinforce supportive language at home and on the range.
• Ages 13–18 (AJGA & high school): practical, teen-friendly tools—breathwork, self-talk scripts, a 90-second green-to-tee routine—plus peer-support basics (“See–Say–Support”) so teammates know how to notice, ask, and connect a friend to help.
• College & Transition: purpose planning, access to care, and preparation for academic/athletic load, with bridges to mentors and career resources.
At events, our Mind Reset Tent offers a quiet, stigma-free space, and every participant receives a take-home Mind Kit (printable worksheet + wallet cards) to keep the habits going. Safety and quality are clinician-guided, using a simple green/yellow/red referral pathway and warm handoffs to local providers.
We reduce barriers by subsidizing participation for under-resourced athletes and training local coaches and volunteers to sustain delivery. Impact is measured with 30–60-second pre/post pulse checks (mood, stress, help-seeking comfort), anonymized dashboards for partners, and quarterly summaries to guide improvement.
In partnership with organizations like First Tee, AJGA, and tour/college stakeholders, The Mulligan Foundation is building a culture in golf where caring for your mind is a mark of strength—and every young person knows where to turn when they need support.
