Project Title: Science Theater: Rocks and Minerals 2025-2026
Project Description:

Get in the Act is a dedicated team of professionally trained artists and educators that use the performing arts as powerful teaching tools to strengthen science learning for elementary students.

Get in the Act adds the Arts to S.T.E.M. and transforms S.T.E.M. to S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math learning) with our hands-on theater framework serving as a pathway to science for students.

Science Theater: Rocks and Minerals 2025-2026 (ST) combines hands-on theater techniques with guided-inquiry to enhance students’ comprehension of earth science. Using all their senses in the learning process, students dramatize rock, mineral, and soil concepts in scenes with their peers, quickly connecting these concepts to their everyday world. Because students have a memorable experience acting-out these scenes, they can learn and retain the science content associated with these scenes.

As evidence of our capacity to successfully deliver this program, ST has served over 30,000 students in 39 schools across fifteen school districts since 2009.

At the heart of ST’s success is the synergy created by our classroom teaching model. Typically, students at a conventional school assembly sit and observe a science demonstration. In refreshing contrast, ST allows every student to actively participate in hands-on dramatizations that link intriguing science questions to events that they find relevant in their lives.

Students that participate in arts education are:
1. Four times as likely to be recognized for academic achievement.
2. Four times as likely to participate in math and science fairs.
3. Three times as likely to win an attendance award.
4. Three times as likely to be elected to school office.

ST will serve approx. 750 students.

To the best of our knowledge, ST is unique in Nevada because of the teaching methods we use in classrooms.
