Project Title: You Can Read! STEAM & Bots Literacy Integration Program
Project Description:

You Can Read! STEAM & Bots Literacy Integration Program addresses systemic educational disparities in low-income Los Angeles communities by eliminating adult illiteracy, the digital divide, and intergenerational low literacy cycles. 33% of adults in our service communities do not have basic literacy skills, and almost half do not have the digital literacy required in today’s workforce. At the same time, children in these same neighborhoods lack access to enriching STEAM materials, with less than 15% of elementary schools provide regular STEAM classes, compared to more affluent districts have coding camps and robotics laboratories. Our program dismantles this cycle by combining children’s’ and adult literacy with project-based robotics and coding. Adults learn reading, writing, and technology literacy through training, and kids learn literacy and coding skills through fun projects.
