Project Title: BGCV Expressive Arts Program
Project Description:

Art programs significantly improve youth mental health in several ways, including stress reduction, building self-confidence, and creating connections. BGCV offers an arts education program that includes music, arts and crafts, dance and expressive arts (helping and healing with art as the basis for discovery and change). The goal of the program is to enrich students’ lives through art, to help them develop academically, emotionally, and socially. The impact is that youth have increased social-emotional support, creative outlets for expression, and ultimately better mental health.
Our center includes a music studio, a stage for theater, dance, and poetry, and space dedicated to creative arts such as painting and digital design. The Music Studio offers music education that many young people in Vista do not have the opportunity to experience elsewhere, including guitar, piano, drum and vocal lessons. Expressive and Creative Arts uses a variety of activities from poetry to music, dancing your heart art to theatre performances on stage and different forms of art such as painting, sketching and digital art. The process of allowing youth to creatively express themselves provides healing, a stable mindset, and a healthy release of emotions. Often visual and performing arts are an outlet for children especially proven in youth experiencing poverty, violence and trauma.
BGCV will partner with the Moonlight Amphitheatre to provide a theatre sessions and additionally BGCV is working to partner with a local artist to provide different art mediums and a dance studio to provide dance genres. Additionally, BGCV will partner with local organization, museums, the Vista Unified School District, and local colleges to provide healing through art services. BGCV will also take youth on field trips throughout the year to expand their exposure to art culture. Many of the students will visit art centers, museums and colleges for the first time.
