Project Title: Reading for the Future Partnership Initiative
Project Description:

Imagine a world where every child has the chance to thrive, no matter where they start. Data can identify the likelihood for a child to succeed in life, and we are on a mission to make transformational change by using data and rallying community to co-create solutions to our most complex challenges facing young people. Our current focus is to improve the number of young people attaining early grade reading benchmarks because data showed a 5-year decline in achievement; and in 2023 over 60% of third graders in Brown County were not reading proficiently. With more than 300 partners engaged, we have launched the Reading for the Future Initiative to collaboratively solve the root causes of why so many youths do not achieve grade level reading benchmarks.

Our initial call to action in 2022 led to community organizations launching, expanding or redesigning early literacy programs in Brown County. However, partners determined more information was needed before they could take action collectively. As a partnership we will identify and collect data regarding the availability and flow of early literacy resources across our community and determine how progress for our action together will be measured. Together we will answer the following questions:

1) How will the partnership measure progress for children from birth to age 9 to know if the actions made by our community are resulting in greater success for children learning to read?
2) What early literacy resources currently exist for youth and families in Brown County, who are they accessible to, and do families know about them?

The data collected will be publicly available through a data dashboard that is maintained and regularly updated. Partners will then follow a proven collaborative improvement process to develop targeted solutions together, measure progress and continuously improve.
