Project Title: Campus Connections – Positive Youth Development for Youth in Hi-Crest, Kansas
Project Description:
Fellowship Hi-Crest, provides extensive youth programming to meet the unique needs of our youth, who have very limited access to resources in the neighborhood. Our Youth Program Director works directly in the local elementary, middle, and high school every week getting to know each young person by name (one of the highest ranked protective factors) and providing mentorship, care coordination, and connection to community resources. Additionally, a Social Emotional Learning Team provides afterschool and summer programming to youth and their families through mental health programs, workforce development, financial literacy, and connections to family programming.
Campus Connections Program include:
Creative Expressions – a mental health program that provides at-risk youth with weekly non-formal therapeutic art sessions
Bridge Builder’s Club – empowers young minds with financial literacy, providing them with real-world experiences in finance and investing.
Work in Process – a series of concerts that use music and personal testimony to fight the stigma around mental health and its treatment, connecting youth and families to affordable and accessible mental health care, and other wrap-around services.
Teach Rock – overall, school-wide curriculum, which helps students learn creatively and innovatively, while learning leadership and SEL skills and coping mechanisms, ensuring students intentionally move through grade levels and are ready for high school.
Through this funding, SENT will be able to increase the reach of existing programs such as Creative Expressions, Bridge Builders, and Work in Process. This grant will support FHC in expanding the capacity of our existing youth programming, person centered case management, mental health and substance abuse prevention programming, and community outreach in order to provide the Hi-Crest community.
