Project Title: JA World Summer Camp for At-Risk Youth
Project Description:

A $10,000 grant will give thirty at-risk youth, aged 5-16 years old, the opportunity to attend one week of JA World Summer Camp. Camp regular fees are $250/week (9am-3pm) plus $50/week for morning care (8-9am) and $75/week for afternoon care (3-6pm). This grant covers morning/afternoon care, meaning the youth have a fun, safe, educational place to spend each day during the week of camp from 8:00am to 6:00pm. JA World Camp helps youth to develop skills in entrepreneurship, workforce readiness, personal finance, business management, self-presentation, and other life skills…while having fun!

Campers explore career interests/skills, complete job applications & job interviews, and practice their life/work skills while running the city as consumers and citizens. Even our youngest campers will be taught fundamental life/work skills that will be put to practice during the week.

Campers must work together to run JA BizTown and each position has an important part to play in each business’ success. Opportunities to lead, present and delegate are sprinkled throughout the program, at all age levels.

Various age-appropriate Junior Achievement curricula are taught throughout the week, making sure to keep camp FUN but also educational.

Junior Achievement of South Florida continually modifies our programs, based on various evaluations, surveys and communication with our community, to better meet the students’ needs and changing economic realities.

No other organization is locally offering a camp at which kids “become adults” and get to work in their “own authentic-looking town” with other kids their age; or where they play the game of life to see how various choices will affect their future. Parents say, “Keep up the good work; super interactive experience; daughter loved it!” and “Everything was awesome; So glad we came here and will come next year!”

Total Project Budget: $252,078
