Project Title: S.U.N.S.H.I.N.E. Learning Station
Project Description:

The S.U.N.S.H.I.N.E. Learning Station (SLS), the flagship program of Ely Chapman Education Foundation (ECEF), is a state-licensed, after-school, academically oriented enrichment and reinforcement program for children in Kindergarten through fifth grade. The SLS mission, created by founder Alice Chapman, is spelled out in its name: a School for Unusual Needs Students, offering Healthy, Individualized, and Nurturing Education. The S.U.N.S.H.I.N.E. Learning Station specializes in serving students who need to improve study skills, extra personal attention, or additional academic help, including students who are both below and above their academic grade level. All students need special attention that may not be available in the local elementary schools. The SLS maintains a student/teacher ratio of 6:1. The program’s goal is to work at grade level in math, reading, and writing by the time the students move up to Middle School. The SLS program offers intensive, hands-on experiences in math, reading, writing, and specialized classes like ceramics, music, The Leader in Me, Ely Chapman Spotlight Theater, and science/nutrition to reach these goals.

No program is complete without highly trained, dedicated staff. Classroom teachers and aides are specially trained in trauma-informed classroom management techniques that allow each child to be strategically guided or redirected. All staff are certified in CPR, first aid, and choking procedures.
