Project Title: Vocational & Life Skills Training Program
Project Description:

The SFACS Vocational Training Project will provide job skills training for 120 students enrolled in the SFACS High School Program in the following areas: office/clerical skills, food service skills, and hospitality/janitorial skills. The program will serve the 120 students enrolled in the SFACS High School Program, grades 9 – 12 up to the age of 22, all of whom are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, and who reside in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Our program targets individuals who are most severely impacted, with limited communication skills, who are verbal or limited verbal; limited in self-help skills, in many cases requiring assistance with toileting and self-care; and difficulties with inappropriate or aggressive behaviors, including: biting, hitting, spitting, self-injury, running away in public, removing clothing, aggression towards others.

The SFACS Vocational-Life Skills Training Program provides job skills & life skills training for students enrolled in the SFACS High School. Our high school curriculum focuses on functional academics, life skills and vocational training, which provides career awareness and job skills including customer service, clerical skills, and functional communication. Given the severity of the disability of our students, not all may be eligible for employment. For those who cannot work as adults, this program will expose them to various skills that can be generalized to the home environment and other places in the community. More importantly, this program allows all of our students an equal opportunity to learn and participate and build their self-esteem and be part of a larger community.
