Project Title: St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children
Project Description:

This year, TIAGD will expand and strengthen our active partnership with St. Christopher’s Hospital. We will add a vital role to our services: a TIAGD NICU Family Advocate (NFA) dedicated to serving NICU families with tailored support upon admission. The families living in the areas served by St. Christopher’s Hospital in Philadelphia often do not have the safety net required to make it through this challenge.

We immediately provide a care package that includes tangible, relevant items and our advocacy checklist to help parents right away in making daunting decisions regarding their newborn’s care.

Beyond that, we provide whatever is needed to smooth the transition to NICU life. If the family needs funds to cover utilities, rent, special supplies or travel, we work with the hospital to provide this in-kind support through our Vital Need Support program. We provide vital baby supplies, including but not limited to cribs, pack n plays, bottles, clothing, etc. We address any housing instability and/or food insecurity that threatens to negatively impact the newborn or other children in the home.

The tailored resources, connections, guidance and hope that our programs provide directly address disparities in social determinants of health and ensure the wellbeing of children during and beyond the NICU.

“Premature birth is a traumatic event that affect everyday lives.  It poses a threat to the physical integrity of the mother and a threat to the integrity of a loved one, the baby.

This project is designed to expand our reach within St. Christopher’s in order to increase both the number of NICU family admissions served and to deepen our impact on those we reach. Our purpose is to ensure the ability of families to thrive, despite the challenge of NICU admission and to promote the healthy development and greater well-being of children.
