Project Title: Providing stability to children and families
Project Description:
FosterAdopt Connect (FAC) is committed to enhancing the lives of children and families by promoting family stability and addressing challenges associated with the child welfare system. Our strategy focuses on innovative solutions specifically designed to fill service gaps within local communities, ultimately elevating the quality of life for children in families facing difficulties. We recently opened a new resource center in Wichita, through which we offer several programs aimed at supporting families and children:
Behavioral Interventionist – This program delivers customized, intensive support to children dealing with emotional and behavioral challenges at home, which can jeopardize their living situations. Our trained staff employ techniques such as role-modeling, coaching, redirection, and de-escalation to help children cultivate self-regulation and independence in their daily lives.
Fostering Prevention – This initiative is dedicated to empowering parents to establish safe and nurturing environments for their children. It provides evidence-based parenting education, assists families in accessing vital resources, and offers support and advocacy for those facing significant obstacles, all with the goal of preventing unnecessary foster care placements.
Sammy’s Window – This assistance program supplies clothing and hygiene items, alleviating the financial strain of caring for children—whether biological, foster, or adopted—and enhancing the ability of regional foster homes to care for an increasing number of children.
As of January 2024, Kansas has 5,895 children in foster care, with over 1,300 located in Sedgwick County, which represents more than 20% of the state’s total. Sedgwick County is seeing an increase in foster care numbers, ranking among the highest per capita in the nation. This situation highlights the urgent need to support vulnerable children in our area. Your support will help provide essential services to children, youth, and families navigating the child welfare system in Wichita.
Total Project Budget: $650,000
Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): The majority of our 2025 operations in Wichita are funded by grants and contracts totaling $610,500 from the Department for Children and Families, and we expect that funding to continue for 2026. However, our long-term goal is to serve more children and families in the Wichita area through a braided revenue stream that engages individuals, churches, corporations, and foundations; prospects include Downing Family Foundation, Dwane L. and Velma Lunt Wallace Foundation, Wichita Foundation, Cargill and Reddi Industries, among others. We are also in early planning stages for our fundraising events for 2026. The support of the Hermanowski Family Foundation is important to our success, and we would love to partner with you to serve children and families in Wichita.
