Project Title: Child & Adolescent Trauma Counseling
Project Description:

Our Child & Adolescent Trauma Counseling Program operates in Palm Beach County, Florida and primarily serves children and adolescents 3-18 who have been impacted by trauma and/or abuse and are uninsured, underinsured and in need. Traumatic events include; bullying, car accidents resulting in major injury or death, mass shootings and fear of mass shootings, unexpected death of a parent or sibling, etc. Forms of abuse include; physical, sexual, mental, and emotional as well as abandonment and neglect.

For these children, Center for Trauma Counseling provides targeted mental health counseling including tools and resources for managing and eliminating the negative effects these incident(s) have on each child’s current well-being and future positive outcomes. Our treatment plans utilize a variety of modalities with a major emphasis on Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Peer and Group Counseling.

Each client’s course of treatment typically spans 6-8 weeks, based on one to two sessions per week, and is predicated on severity of presenting symptoms. However, it is clinically appropriate for clients to receive longer-term therapy in some cases. Thus, the extent of services naturally varies based on individual client needs.

Our objectives includes:

• Provide mental health intervention services within a 48-hour period from time of referral.
• Provide critical intervention with immediate service to self-referral and walk-in clients.
• Increase the availability of immediate, short and long-term services using a minimum of two regularly scheduled peer and group counseling sessions per week
• Increase the availability of mental health intervention services for youth and families through consistent outreach and coordination with community based programs
