Project Title: Helping Youth Thrive After Homelessness
Project Description:

Solid Ground’s Sand Point Housing campus in North Seattle provides safe housing and wraparound, onsite supportive services for up to 400 community members recovering from homelessness each year – nearly half of whom are children, youth, and young adults. Sand Point’s Children’s Program serves the unique needs of close to 200 children, youth, and young adults who call our campus home. All children come from families living on low incomes and the majority have other Adverse Childhood and Community Experiences (ACEs), such as exposure to violence, mental health or substance use disorders, and other trauma.
We believe that family members of all ages deserve individualized support to overcome barriers to thriving, so Sand Point’s Children’s Program combines youth-focused advocacy with robust onsite programming and partnerships designed to engage and empower our youngest residents as the learners, leaders, and architects of thriving futures. Beginning with basic needs, our dedicated Children’s staff work to support nutrition, clothing, and school enrollment, while implementing regular programming and community partnerships to provide daily afterschool tutoring, social-emotional skill development, 1:1 mentorship, career exploration, college prep, summer meals, and more. We also enjoy strong partnerships with local public schools, the Seattle Public Library, and other youth-focused organizations that enable us to make referrals for behavioral health, enrichment activities, and other resources to establish a village of supporters who believe and invest in our young people’s future success.
If awarded, your grant would support key program costs that allow us to sustain and expand our range of onsite youth services in response to families’ identified needs, ensuring that youth’s community of support adapts and grows with them as they age. Grant funds would specifically go toward program staffing, partnership costs, and supplies to sustain these vital services for youth in the coming year.

Total Project Budget: $453,797

The vast majority of our Children’s programming relies on individual and foundation support to sustain our services – if awarded, your grant funds would help us to ensure that offerings like afterschool tutoring, college & career readiness, and teen programming are able to continue uninterrupted.
