Project Title: Side-by-Side Music Mentorship Program
Project Description:

The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra (OPO) Side-by-Side Music Mentorship Program provides underserved middle and high school students with access to professional music instruction, mentorship, and performance opportunities. Designed to eliminate financial barriers to music education, this initiative pairs OPO professional musicians with students from Title I schools, offering four structured group lessons per year. The program culminates in a public performance where students and professional musicians play together, fostering both technical skills and artistic expression.

Since 2017, the program has served over 250 students annually from Howard Middle School and Edgewater High School. The OPO would like to expand into Jones High School and add Oak Ridge High School and its feeder middle school, Westridge, to strengthen the pipeline of student musicians. Beyond technical instruction, the program nurtures confidence, discipline, and perseverance, qualities that extend beyond music and into students’ academic and personal lives.

Funding from the Hermanowski Family Foundation will enable the continued expansion of this program, ensuring equitable access to high-quality music education and mentorship.
