Project Title: Ballet Bound
Project Description:

Louisville Ballet believes that all children should have access to high-quality dance education regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, or socio-economic status. Ballet Bound was established in 2020 and is designed to provide access to underserved children into the world of ballet while serving as a pathway to The Louisville Ballet School, Louisville Ballet Studio Company, and eventually the possibility of a career with Louisville Ballet. Ballet Bound aims to address underrepresentation and barriers to access for underserved families who would like to receive dance instruction and enjoy professional ballet performances in our community.

Each year, 20 students ages 7-9 are awarded one year of free tuition and uniforms to take classes at Louisville Ballet. Ballet Bound students have three performance opportunities throughout the year, and their families receive free tickets to attend all Louisville Ballet performances. At the conclusion of this free year of study, up to five students from this group are selected to receive a Ballet Bound Continuing Scholarship to the Louisville Ballet School. These students are eligible for free training until high school graduation. These scholarships cover the costs of tuition, uniforms, dance shoes, and all other administrative fees associated with the study of ballet. Coverage of fees to participate in annual performance opportunities, special workshops with guest teachers at the school, and the Louisville Ballet Summer Intensive are also included in the scholarship. The rest of the students are eligible for partial financial aid.

Our Ballet Bound Program aims to increase dance and arts engagement in our community and challenge stereotypes that have long been prevalent in ballet. By creating access to the arts at a young age, we hope to impact these children for a lifetime. Your support will help us to sustain this vital program, which is a cornerstone of our Community Engagement mission.
