Project Title: Expanding Horizons for Western NC Youth
Project Description:

Children in the catchment area WYN serves have been impacted deeply by Hurricane Helene. Some lost homes and possessions and some lost loved ones. Nearly all suffer from an intensified degree of anxiety. We are working to give them outdoor recreational experiences to broaden their horizons and help provide them with resilience and coping skills they need. If granted, your funds would allow us to take children on unique trips during afterschool hours, and on their spring and summer breaks from school. These adventures include beach trips, caving, hiking and rafting trips, high ropes courses and much more to help them feel challenged by, but also safe in, the outdoors. These trips will be paired with trips to museums, live plays and music events and nature preserves to ensure a well-rounded experience for youth in the Appalachian mountain region who might otherwise not have such opportunities.
