Project Title: Academic Enrichment
Project Description:

Boys & Girls Club of Wooster (BGCW) seeks support from the Hermanowski Foundation to expand its education strategy and strengthen academic enrichment for youth ages 5–18, particularly those from low-income families. Rooted in the evidence-based Project Learn model, this initiative will focus on increasing access to STEM programming, building staff and volunteer capacity, and enhancing program evaluation to improve educational outcomes.

While BGCW already offers foundational supports like Power Hour and arts enrichment, a recent self-assessment identified specific areas for growth. These include offering STEM programming more consistently, formalizing staff development in instructional best practices, and increasing engagement with families and school partners. To address these needs, BGCW will implement a three-pronged approach:

Youth Capacity: Deliver weekly STEM programs using high-yield, hands-on activities that promote critical thinking, curiosity, and confidence in academic learning.

Staff & Volunteer Capacity: Train education staff and volunteers in effective facilitation strategies and implement peer observation with targeted coaching.

Club Capacity: Strengthen evaluation tools to track impact, host quarterly family engagement events, and enhance partnerships with local schools to align on learning goals.

By investing in this program, the Hermanowski Foundation will help increase academic engagement among youth, prepare them for school success, and ensure more young people are on track to graduate with a plan for the future. Over the next year, BGCW anticipates a 25% increase in STEM participation, improved staff instructional quality, and stronger feedback systems to guide continuous improvement. This targeted expansion builds on BGCW’s strong foundation and aligns directly with the Hermanowski Foundation’s commitment to educational opportunity for youth.
