Project Title: Desks for Success
Project Description:

Boca Raton Achievement Center, BRAC, is a non-profit, private specialized school for students with autism and other developmental and learning disabilities, a very underserved and vulnerable population. These students are unable to succeed in traditional school settings. Many have years of unacceptable experiences and suffer with regression of skills and little or no learning. BRAC provides a unique curriculum tailored to meet the individual needs of each student. At BRAC, we find how our students learn, teach them as individuals and allow them to grow at their own pace. Additionally, BRAC offers social, emotional and behavioral support, teaching essential life skills and vocational training. BRAC supports the greater community by training and preparing students for sustainable employment. We partner with local businesses and organizations to create enrichment opportunities for our students in athletics, fine art and other extracurricular activities.

In august 2022, BRAC opened doors with just the bare minimum. We relied on donations of used furniture, old computers, and any supplies we could acquire, resulting in mismatched tables and chairs not well suited for classroom instruction.

Within the first two years, our enrollment doubled, serving over 30 students. Without adequate seating, this growth in enrollment created a crowded setting: students sitting too close to each other with less than adequate work space, along with safety issues with students tripping over chairs they forget to push in.

BRAC is now preparing to relocate into more suitable space. Our new location will provide beautiful classrooms with natural sunlight; open spaces for large group and social activities; a complete kitchen where our students will learn cooking, laundry and other essential life skills.

Our goal is to furnish our new space with appropriate school furniture, providing our students with individual student desks, thus creating a modernized learning environment.
