Project Title: General Operating Costs for 2026 Programming
Project Description:

VIA Academy’s 2026 program will be the seventh iteration of our program, bringing students to the New World Center’s campus located in Miami Beach, Fl at no-cost to the students or their families. Our high school-age students come from remote and underrepresented communities within classical music, and are offered instrumental skill training and mentorship on their future career decisions from professional teaching artists who are leaders in the field of classical music. In addition to this individual focus, VIA Academy broadens our student’s perspectives with a curriculum that explores the purpose of music in culture and community.

Founded in 2020 by two members of the New World Symphony, VIA Academy was a direct response to the need to adapt to the pandemic and the widespread need for access it created. This led to the creation of an inclusive and equitable music education program capable of adapting to the specific needs our students face. After the pandemic we evolved to include in-person programing, and with this principle of adaptability, we identified the need for our in-person program to not only address the needs of our individual students, but to also empower our students to add to the ecosystem of artistic opportunities in their own differing communities. This defining part of our curriculum is met in two ways; the first is guiding each of our students through designing their own actionable community projects, the second is through our collaboration to support a local institution through our program’s culminating performance.

VIA Academy’s curriculum not only fosters the growth of our students, but also guides them in continuing to use their talents to positively impact their communities. If awarded, these funds would directly support general operating expenses associated with bringing this curriculum to the students we serve at no-cost to them or their families.
