Project Title: The Victory Vocational Program
Project Description:

The Victory Vocational Program, unique to the South Florida community, is a center-based program for students ages 14-22 affected by autism and other related neurological disabilities who are unable to obtain a high school diploma. Students with autism experience a broad range of challenges, often limiting them to a life of dependency. The Vocational program is an effort to break that cycle, focusing on vocational training and daily living skills that prepare students to be more independent as he or she transitions to adulthood. The program is underscored by four primary principles: functional academics, domestic living, vocational training, and community skills. The program boasts a variety of experiences, providing students instruction in the classroom, a campus-based home environment, in community settings, and with neurotypical peers from local high school programs.

All students learn self-care skills, health, hygiene, navigating public transportation, appropriate behavior in social situations, attending appointments, and job skills training. These skills are taught using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and facilitated by instructors professionally trained in the areas of education, behavior analysis, and other related services.

The program is ideal for students behind in grade level or requires an adapted curriculum, those who experience negative peer interactions in traditional educational settings, have difficulty learning in large groups, exhibit maladaptive behavior, or those who have trouble finding meaningful employment.

Students enrolled in the program operate on highly individualized data-driven education plans that address the specific needs of each student. Students are assessed quarterly using the Community Based Functional Skills Assessment and that data is collected using the cutting-edge Catalyst Data Collection platform, best positioning instructors to adequately and accurately monitor student progress and program success.
