Project Title: AYS Pathways to Success: Middle School Program
Project Description:

The demand for afterschool programs is great—according to a recent study conducted by the Afterschool Alliance, 8.4 million children are currently enrolled in afterschool programs, but the parents of more than 18 million children would enroll them in a program if one were available to them. Despite the existing evidence that afterschool programs can positively influence the children and support working families in their communities who are struggling in the current economic climate, there are more than 15 million children who have no adult supervision when the school day ends – including middle school students who, despite the inclination that they do not need “babysitters,” need positive influences in their lives outside of the school day.
The AYS Pathways to Success project seeks to grow and enhance AYS’s current middle school basic childcare offerings by creating a supportive environment that fosters interpersonal connectivity, academic success, leadership skills, and positive relationships with peers and staff. The initiative will provide specific middle school age training for staff, establish community partnerships, as well as provide academic incentives to motivate students, leadership-building opportunities to empower them, and life skills training to prepare them for future success. By emphasizing personal growth, teamwork and mentorship, the program will nurture strong connections among students and staff, promoting a sense of community. This holistic approach ensures students are equipped with the tools they need to thrive academically, socially and in life. This program will provide parents/guardians with peace of mind by offering a safe, structured and enriching afterschool environment for their children.
