Project Title: Enriching Connections
Project Description:

The mission of Friends of Foster Children (FFC) is to transform the lives of children in foster care through services, support and education in order to overcome the effects of child abuse and neglect, so they can experience a healthy, happy childhood and become productive members of society.
Today, approximately 1,500 children live within the foster care system in Palm Beach County.

Of the six programs of FFC, Enriching Connections provides funding for foster children to participate in activities, such as summer camp, sports, field trips, etc. that they otherwise would not have access to due to financial restrictions. As an example, in the last year, through this program:

– 121 foster youth were able to attend a 5-day summer camp
– 25 children were able to attend gymnastics and dance camp
– 6 children in fifth grade were able to attend the Safety Patrol trip in Washington DC with their peers
– We were able to purchase 3 laptops for foster children who graduated high school and will be attending college.

Enriching Connections is a “grant” program in which each child can apply for assistance. It is the foster child’s responsibility, with the assistance of their guardian, to complete the funding application. This process promotes self-confidence, teaches consumer research skills and promotes learning and independence.
