Project Title: NEXT Children’s Ministry Conference at Moody Bible Institute
Project Description:
Moody Bible Institute is an undergraduate Christian college in Chicago. As part of Moody Global Ministries, a 501(c)(3), our impact is through higher education, Moody Radio, and Moody Publishers. Our station in Boynton Beach is WRMB, 89.3 FM. Moody has the vision to reach across the globe, cultures, and generations to equip people with the truth of God’s Word.
We wish to see children thrive by providing tools for success to counteract the challenges they face. For example, in Illinois alone 21 percent of children live in poverty (“More children in Illinois…” Chicago Sun-Times, July 21, 2015). To address this crisis, Moody’s annual NEXT Children’s Ministry Conference provides training for churches who care for families. By supporting and training people who work with children through the conference, children will have a greater chance to develop into their full potential.
Many conferences for those who help in children’s ministries are too expensive or too far away. Moody overcomes this obstacle by creating a conference where leaders who impact children can be properly equipped for a reasonable cost at a convenient location. For $50, leaders receive a full day of professional training, interaction with other leaders, and lunch. Led by a key professor in our children’s ministry major, Elizabeth Smith, the conference attendees leave with access to support throughout the year as issues arise. Our goal is for all 77 of Chicago’s neighborhoods to have a representative at the conference to reflect the beauty of diversity in our surrounding community.
At this time, that dream is not achievable. We lack funding to provide marketing materials and scholarships. We are respectfully requesting The Hermanowski Family Foundation to consider a grant of $5,000 to provide a conference impacting our children and our communities in the greater Chicago area.
Total Project Budget: $15,000
Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Revenue comes from registration. At this time, we have no potential funders for the 2018 conference. A generous anonymous ministry partner gave $10,000 toward the 2017 conference, but the gift was not a multi-year gift, and now we are seeking to fulfill the $10,000 need for the conference in April 2018. Your consideration of a $5,000 grant will significantly boost our ability to provide a conference suitable to help those who are directly in contact with children.
Project Duration: The conference is one day, but marketing, recruitment, and planning occur throughout the year. This grant would be applied to the 2018 conference.
Geographical Area Served: Chicagoland
Age Group To Be Served: Those attending the conference range from ages 16 to 80 with a wide range of ethnic and cultural diversity which reflects Chicago. Attendees serve ages 0 to 18.
