Project Description:
The mission of United Cerebral Palsy of Broward, Palm Beach & Mid Coast Counties, Inc. (UCP) is to positively impact the quality of life of people with cerebral palsy, other developmental disabilities and their family members as well as people with similar needs, such as the frail elderly, by providing supports and services which aide in the achievement of their goals and desires.
Services offered consist of early intervention, integrated preschool, after school care, speech, physical and occupational therapy, adult vocational workshop, respite care, advocacy, supported employment program and residential facilities for children and adults with special needs and other disabilities. From infants to senior citizens, children and adults participate in programs that will help them lead independent and meaningful lives.
UCP offers various programs serving over 400 children and adults with developmental delays including cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, intellectual disabilities, spina bifida, and other developmental disabilities. The Marie Wasie Early Beginnings Preschool offers Early Intervention programs serving over 50 children with developmental delays from 3 to 6 years of age. The program offers an individualized, developmentally appropriate curriculum that helps each child reach his/her maximum potential by building on their individual strengths and abilities. UCP is requesting grant funding for adaptable equipment for children with developmental disabilities. The equipment includes an electric adjustable changing table, adapted stroller, adapted classroom chair offering trunk and head support for children who are unable to sit, adapted swing seat, and voice output devices/ single message communication device allowing children who cannot speak a chance to participate in circle time and other activities.
With the specialized equipment, the children will be better served and assisted. This will increase their opportunities and maximize their potential.
