Project Title: Youth Suicide Prevention Program
Project Description:
With Hope, the Amber Craig Memorial Foundation is committed to suicide prevention through education, crisis intervention, and bereavement support. Our Suicide Prevention Program provides expert speakers, educational materials, crisis support, counseling referrals, and financial counseling assistance for at-risk youth.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among ages 10-14, yet it is often preventable. Many schools and communities lack the resources to address this crisis. With Hope Foundation bridges this gap by educating, equipping, and empowering individuals to recognize the warning signs and to act to save young lives.
Our Suicide Prevention Presentations are held in person, during school hours for students and staff, and in the evenings for parents, faith, and community leaders. We’ve reached over 330,500 individuals across schools and communities in Southern California, equipping youth, educators, and families with life-saving knowledge and resources. We are committed to ensuring that no one is turned away due to financial barriers, making our services accessible to all.
The following are the objectives of our life-saving Suicide Prevention Programs:
• Educate, equip, and empower 20,000 individuals annually with tools focusing on prevention, screening, and early intervention
• Increase the number of trusted adults, peers, school staff, and faith and community leaders who are trained in evidence-based approaches to suicide prevention and mental health awareness in youth
• Break down the stigma surrounding mental illness, develop open lines of communication, reinforce help-seeking attitudes and behaviors, and identify social support systems
• Connect communities to mental and behavioral health resources, support, and services
• Continue to fund counseling and financial assistance to youths at risk for suicide
• Offer ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) to school staff, parents and caregivers, and faith and community leaders
Young people who have access to education, early intervention, and resources are more likely to navigate mental health challenges successfully.
