Project Title: Earth Voices
Project Description:

Earth Guardians Earth Voices (EV) education and action initiative empowers BIPOC students ages 8–18 from underserved communities to lead in the climate/environmental justice movement. In 2024, the inaugural program engaged over 1,400 students across eight events in cities like New York, Denver, and Chicago. Through keynotes, interactive workshops, and ongoing mentorship, students gained skills to address climate change, amplify marginalized voices, and create community-driven environmental solutions.

This program is urgently needed as climate change disproportionately impacts underserved BIPOC communities, exacerbating systemic inequities. Gen Z reports high levels of climate anxiety and disconnection from nature, compounded by limited access to climate education. Earth Voices addresses these challenges by equipping youth with tools, mentorship, and actionable pathways to turn their despair into climate action.

In 2025, EV will engage 14 schools in major metropolitan areas including New York, Baltimore, Phoenix, Denver, Chicago, San Diego. Each 2-3 hour event will feature EG’s professional youth speakers delivering a keynote and slideshow on what it means to get engaged in environmental justice leadership and community engagement, followed by a hands-on interactive workshop on strategic grassroots environmental organizing. Activities include brainstorming community-specific projects, identifying stakeholders, and creating action plans for initiatives like community gardens, waste reduction, and waterway cleanups.

After events, students are guided in forming EG Crews—youth-led groups focused on local environmental solutions. As our central program, Crews receive ongoing mentorship, training, virtual master classes, project grants, and access to EG’s global network of 101 active Crews to collaborate with and learn from peers across the globe. By the end of 2025, Earth Voices aims to establish 10 new school Crews and mobilize 800 additional youth to lead local environmental justice projects in their communities.

Earth Voices exemplifies EG’s commitment to centering youth agency, amplifying youth leadership, and advancing environmental justice.
