Project Title: Youth Entrepreneurship Program
Project Description:
The Metropolitan Business League’s Youth Entrepreneurship Program (YEP) stands out as a model initiative in Virginia. This yearlong, comprehensive program, operating in both school-based and after-school settings, empowers middle and high school students (grades 6-12) to emerge as confident entrepreneurs.
With the use of innovative business teaching strategies, culminated with a flexible curriculum, we provide training and expert entrepreneurs as speakers and resources for the following initiatives: 1) Teens Who Mean Business (8-week series), 2) Remarkable Girls Luncheon, 3) Remarkable Girls Summit, 4) Entrepreneurship Tour Stop, 5) Kidz N. Biz, 6) Boys in Businesses, 7) MBL Junior Club, 8) Children’s Business Fair, 9) Entrepreneurship Crash Course – during school breaks, 10) Construction Zone, 11) Boys n Construction 12) Teens Who Mean Business Shark Tank, 13) Kidz n Biz Shark Tank, and 14) Entrepreneurship Vending Series. Through this year-long comprehensive program, over seven hundred and fifty (750) students from public schools learn how to generate business ideas, conduct market research, write business plans, and take business tours. Culminated by students taking the stage and pitching their ideas to established entrepreneurs for a chance to win cash prizes during our annual "Shark Tank" events.
Since the program’s inception, over five thousand (5,000) students have participated in one (1) or more of the YEP initiatives mentioned. MBL’s Youth Entrepreneurship Program will continue to be innovative in programming for FY2025, expanding collaborations and offering a variety of initiatives to meet each student’s interest.
