Project Title: Empowering Early Learners: Comprehensive Support for Brooklyn’s Children
Project Description:
ACE Integration Head Start is a nationally accredited early childhood education program serving Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant, Bushwick, and East New York communities. Our inclusive approach integrates children of all abilities and backgrounds, emphasizing acceptance, creativity, and ecology (ACE). The program supports 130 children ages 3-5 annually, many from low-income, immigrant, or asylum-seeking families. Forty percent of participants are preschoolers with disabilities.
Our program provides high-quality bilingual education based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy and Creative Curriculum. These approaches encourage active exploration, critical thinking, and creativity while fostering social and emotional growth. In collaboration with KIDS-Centric, we offer specialized services for children with disabilities, including speech, occupational, and physical therapy and individualized education plans (IEPs).
Health and wellness are integral to our mission. We provide developmental screenings, vision and dental care, free eyeglasses, and nutritious meals prepared by a certified nutritionist. Mental health support includes behavior management, play therapy, and counseling. Our services are tailored to meet the unique needs of immigrant families, addressing language barriers and offering guidance on navigating life in the U.S.
Parental involvement is a cornerstone of our program. Through workshops, support groups, and leadership opportunities, parents are empowered to play an active role in their child’s development and education.
With Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation funding, we will enhance classroom resources, expand teacher training, and strengthen family support initiatives. This project will provide children with the tools and environment to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally, ensuring they are prepared for lifelong learning and development.

Geographical Area Served: ACE Integration Head Start serves the communities of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Bushwick, and East New York in Brooklyn, New York. These neighborhoods are home to a diverse population, with a significant portion of residents living below the poverty line, including many immigrant and asylum-seeking families. The area faces high food insecurity and low literacy rates, making access to quality early childhood education critical. ACE’s services cater to children and families with limited resources, language barriers, and specific educational or health needs, aiming to provide equitable opportunities for all.
Age Group To Be Served: Children ages 3 to 5
