Project Title: STEAM Education Operating Support
Project Description:

Recognized as one of the premier STEM education institutions in the Southwest Virginia region, the Science Museum of Western Virginia provides unmatched, supplemental educational opportunities for kindergarten-middle school students across our region and STEM educational opportunities for all visitors that enter our museum. SMWV offers in-museum and outreach programs for public schools throughout the school year, educating over 36,000 students each year. Additionally, we provide pre-k programming through The Lab, Jr. to introduce children to STEAM education long before they enter formal education environments. Outside of field-trips and outreach programs, students are exposed to STEM-based education within our spring break camps, summer camps, and after school programs.

The Southwest Virginia region presents a unique opportunity for economic revitalization through enhanced STEM education. The promise of the rising digital economy and technology sectors offers pathways for job creation and sustainable growth, but this potential remains untapped without the necessary skills and inspiration among our youth. As such, we seek funding to support our STEAM education offered through our facility and Education Department to enhance the lives of our rural region’s youngest residents and future workers. Supporting these STEM initiatives and organizations is a direct investment in the future of STEM in the Southwest Virginia region and beyond.
