Project Title: Expanding Access to Education and Enrichment for Baltimore’s Youth
Project Description:
The Village Learning Place (VLP) serves as a vital lifeline for youth in Baltimore, where approximately 85% of students live in poverty, and less than 10% meet grade-level proficiency in core subjects such as math and English. The LINK After School and Summer programs provide a safe, structured environment for over 200 children annually, offering tutoring, enrichment activities, and mentorship that counter the negative effects of systemic poverty, high dropout rates, and limited access to quality education.
VLP’s programs are urgently needed in a city where youth face stark challenges, including exposure to high crime rates, inadequate educational resources, and limited opportunities. Our programs aim to break the cycle of poverty and empower the next generation by offering access to safe spaces, nurturing a love of learning, and fostering resilience. With a grant of $10,000 from the Hermanowski Family Foundation, we can expand our after-school and summer offerings to engage more youth, providing them with the tools they need to thrive academically and personally.
This funding will directly support daily tutoring sessions, enrichment activities, and community engagement initiatives, ensuring that our programs continue to serve as a beacon of hope and opportunity for Baltimore’s most vulnerable youth.
By emphasizing the urgent need for educational and community resources in Baltimore and illustrating the role that VLP plays in addressing these needs, this narrative strengthens the case for funding support from the Hermanowski Family Foundation.
