Project Title: Tuition Assistance Program
Project Description:

he Early Learning Centers of Lubbock (ELC) boast a remarkable legacy of supporting children and families in Lubbock, Texas. Their story began in 1943, during World War II, in East Lubbock. The Carver Heights center was established to serve the vital role of caring for children of low-income mothers contributing to the war effort.

In 1951, a significant chapter unfolded when Carver Heights joined forces with the Lubbock Day Nursery, sponsored by the Junior League. This merger paved the way for the creation of the well-known Early Learning Centers of Lubbock, Inc.

ELC’s growth has been fueled by continuous support from various sources,

including state funding, the United Way, Community Development programs, the Lubbock Independent School District, and generous foundation grants. Today, the organization proudly operates five centers strategically located in North and East Lubbock: Guadalupe, Talkington, Carver, New Directions, and Phenix (opened in August 2022).

In 2022 alone, ELC served over 500 children, ranging from infants to school-age youngsters. Notably, more than half of these children (51%) benefited from full-year care. The centers primarily serve low-income families (93%) and children from ethnic minority backgrounds (86%).

ELC prioritizes fostering child development through an engaging curriculum that emphasizes active learning and equipping children with pre-reading skills. This nurturing environment allows parents to attend work or pursue their education with confidence, knowing their children are receiving quality care. Childcare fees are based on each family’s income, ranging from $90 to $130 per week for full-time care of one child, ensuring affordability and accessibility.

Through dedication and a commitment to fostering young minds, Early Learning Centers of Lubbock continues to be a cornerstone of support for families and a champion for early childhood development in Lubbock.
