Project Title: Nurturing the Next Generation of Emotionally Intelligent Leaders
Project Description:

Prismatic is on a mission to activate leadership potential for young people living in low-income communities by infusing social and emotional skill-building into career development education. We offer two social-emotional learning programs for middle and high school students. Young Changemakers and IGNITE. Our programs are designed to empower students to explore who they are, define their passions and purpose, build resiliency, and discover how their unique qualities can make a valuable change in their communities and our world. Ultimately, Prismatic programs serve as a launchpad for success in any field, introducing students to a wide range of career paths and ensuring they have the skills and community support to advance, lead and pivot with resiliency no matter what life throws at them.

We draw inspiration from research that states, "Adolescent leaders are more likely to take up managerial positions as adults, and leadership skills developed early on can have a positive impact on future wages" (Kuhn, P. & Weinberger, C., 2005). Therefore, we aim to cultivate leaders, particularly those coming from Chicago’s low-income neighborhoods. By providing these students with the necessary support and resources, they have the potential to break the cycle of poverty and create a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities. If awarded this grant, we can develop a new generation of leaders who have the emotional intelligence skills to shape the future of our workforce.

A $10,000 grant will allow us to run a full-school year program impacting over 50 students from one Chicago school in a high-need community. We will use the grant funding to compensate personnel and contractors who make our programs possible at our partner school, including a partnership manager, program manager, curriculum designer, and instructional specialist.
