Project Title: People Working Cooperatively Home Repairs and Modifications Program
Project Description:
With this program, PWC provides critical and urgent home repairs and accessibility modifications so that low-income homeowners and their families can remain living more independently, safely and healthily in their own homes. Typically, our clients have annual incomes below $14,000 a year and they are elderly, veterans, single parents or grandparents raising children, or individuals with disabilities. While they were once able to afford a home of their own, the vast majority of PWC’s clients have experienced a life change – a serious illness or injury, the loss of a good job or a spouse, or simply getting older and having to live on a fixed income that doesn’t keep up with the cost of living – that has put maintenance of that home beyond their financial reach. This is where PWC can help. Our staff of 85+ trades professionals are certified, licensed, and bonded and can fix problems in plumbing, roofing, electrical and HVAC systems, and fundamental homes structures such as floors, walls, ceilings, steps, doors, entry ways, walkways and more at the highest of professional standards. PWC’s trades staff also give us the capacity to address emergency needs such as a burst pipe spewing water or a furnace that stops working in the middle of winter 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. PWC serves a diverse clientele. 49% of clients are black, 40% are white and 11% come from other racial backgrounds or declined to respond. While 72% of households we serve are headed by someone over 60, 20% of individuals benefitting from a PWC service are under the age of 18. 68% of clients are female, and 32% are male. PWC services are provided at no cost to the client.
