Project Title: Children’s Bereavement Support Program
Project Description:

We are requesting consideration of a grant (and a new partnership with the Hermanowski Foundation) to support Tomorrow’s Rainbow’s vital 2024 Children’s Bereavement Support program, which will provide FREE, equine-assisted bereavement support to ~850 children and their families. Tomorrow’s Rainbow is the only stand-alone grief center in Broward and Palm Beach counties supporting grieving children, teens, and their families. At our 2.5-acre ranch in Coconut Creek, we provide free grief support services for 600+ children annually, ages 3 to 18, who have experienced the loss of a loved one. We simultaneously offer onsite adult grief support groups to assist the needs of the children’s family members. Our robust programming provides the necessary tools for each child to map out their own unique grief journey in a way that is meaningful to them; all in an emotionally safe, natural environment designed for hope and healing. Our clients and their families live and work in Broward and Palm Beach County, and most are from low-and-moderate income households. No other facility in the nation combines the time-tested, best-practice models of both the Dougy Center model for peer-facilitated grief support and the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association’s (EAGALA) model for Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP). By incorporating these two successful models into our support services, grieving children not only begin to share their feelings and experiences, they also build emotional resilience and a path towards a successful future. This grant will support our comprehensive program, which includes our on-site grief support program, our intensive Family Trauma program and our newest, mobile, Grief on the Go program, which brings our flagship programming directly into the communities of most need across Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

Total Project Budget: $ 834,063

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): We currently have $275,000 committed and another $537,000 pending – primarily from grants and foundation support, as well as some individial giving. We expect to raise enough funding to offset the direct expenses of the program, which will serve ~850 bereaved children this year.

Project Duration: Our on-site Children’s Bereavement Program and Family Trauma program run continuously, year round. Grief on the Go runs in coordination with partner agencies and is scheduled based on need and funding.
Geographical Area Served: Broward and Palm Beach Counties
Age Group To Be Served: 3-18
