Project Title: The Bakari Transformative Wholeness Institute
Project Description:

The Bakari Transformative Wholeness Institute programs empower youth aged 14 through 18 with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on training needed to break down barriers that have stagnated underserved communities to begin rebuilding emotional health and to develop a firm foundation for wealth building. We contribute to the broader goal of community well-being by providing methods to remove the stigma and constraints of living in poverty by decreasing the economic gap for impoverished and victimized communities that are often overlooked and are dealing with compound trauma.

We offer three programs that target overcoming a poverty mentality, replacing it with a promising emotional and financial outlook: Financial Literacy, Foundations in Entrepreneurship, and Career Leadership Internship for High School Students.

The Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship programs are delivered in Austin Independent School District (AISD) high schools by AISD certified teachers. After two years, over 2000 students have been given the opportunity to participate. In addition to providing the industry leading Ramsey Solutions curriculum while each student uses his or her personally assigned computer to access lessons, workshops, and direction on a special project, TBF hand-selected, culturally sensitive speakers engage with the students. Financial Literacy sessions include real-life scenarios focused on building credit, the Federal Reserve System, foreign currency systems, stocks and bonds, cryptocurrency, and real estate, to name a few. Foundations in Entrepreneurship encourages underrepresented youth to have their own businesses to manage their financial destiny and ensure they have economic leverage globally.

The Career Leadership Internship Program, now in its third year, pays interns competitively, more than minimum wage, and offers real world opportunities in product development, marketing, current technologies, and non-profit leadership.
As recipients of the grant, our goal is to continue these programs for 2025 and expand the reach to an additional 1,000 youth.
