Project Title: Core Education and Enrichment
Project Description:

Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County (BGCPBC) is respectfully requesting $10,000 in support of our foundational service, Core Education and Enrichment Programming. From one Clubhouse in 1971, BGCPBC has grown to 20 sites encompassing 7 freestanding Clubs and 13 elementary, middle, and high school Club sites. We serve over 13,000 children, teens and their families annually and are in the top ten of Boys & Girls Clubs of over 5,000 Clubs nationwide.

While most people conjure ideas of great wealth when they hear mention of Palm Beach County, BGCPBC serves extremely low-income, under-resourced children and families: 70% of our members live in single parent/non-traditional households, with 55% of their families earning less than $30,000 a year (with 40% of these earning less than $20,000 annually). 82% of our children and teens qualify for free or reduced lunch at school. 66% of our members are Black/African American, 22% are Hispanic, 8% are Multiracial, and 4% are White.

BGCPBC’s programming is guided by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s (BGCA) Formula for Impact, a researched based youth development theory of change utilizing five critical elements for positive youth development. Core services include:

Education programs that promote self-directed learning, help members acquire positive attitudes toward academic success and provide homework help, tutoring, college and workforce exploration, and 21st-century work skills training,

Health and Life Skills programs that inspire positive choices in the areas of nutrition, fitness, hygiene, personal relationships, and risk avoidance,

Arts programs that enable members to discover new interests, untapped talents, and positive forms of self-expression,

Sports, Fitness, and Wellness programs that foster sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect for others through athletic leagues and individual sports and fitness,

Leadership and Service programs that guide members in developing a moral compass through leadership building, volunteerism, and community service.
