Project Title: School Backpack Program: Ensuring Atlanta’s Children are well fed through the weekend
Project Description:
Reflections’ mission is to meet the basic needs of impoverished individuals in crisis with food and clothing and through doing so, offer additional resources and support to improve the trajectory of their lives. For over 20 years, Reflections of Trinity has been offering compassionate services to support local families in crisis, those caught in the cycle of poverty and continually struggling to obtain the most basic human needs: food, clothing, and shelter.
Reflections of Trinity is respectfully seeking a charitable gift of $10,000 to support our School Backpack program. According to the Atlanta Community Food Bank, 10% of children in Atlanta are food insecure. Funding will aid in supporting operations and replenishing diminishing food stocks to ensure that 300 students from 3 local, Title 1 schools have 10 lb. boxes of food to take home each weekend. Each Thursday, simple to prepare weekend meal supplies are assembled and distributed for students to take home to share with their families. Counselors and social workers aid in identifying those students most in need and at-risk for going hungry.
Other Programs Include: Reflections’ Team 58 Food Pantry distributes food on Saturday mornings at our Team 58 Food Pantry to 1,200 families weekly. Food is shared via a volunteer-staffed drive-through. Each client/family receives an 85-100 lbs. box of assorted fresh and non-perishable foods (fruits, vegetables, bread, meat, snacks, and canned goods). In our experiences, the average need is 3-6 months of consistent weekly food support to gain strong enough financial security to wean themselves from relying on food assistance. Our Senior Food Program delivers food each Tuesday directly to eight HUD (subsidized housing for low-income) senior citizen communities located in Cobb, Paulding, and Fulton counties. Each senior receives a seven-day supply of nutritious food. Our senior program reaches 1,000 seniors each month.
