Project Title: Character Does Matter: Empowering the Next Generation of Leaders
Project Description:
Travis Manion Foundation’s veteran-led youth mentorship program is Character Does Matter (CDM). Character Does Matter represents the culmination of TMF’s mission, leveraging the skills of our nation’s military community as role models, educating youth on character and leadership. The basis of all Travis Manion Foundation programming and the Character Does Matter curriculum is Positive Psychology, a field dedicated to studying factors that contribute to individual and community well-being and thriving. Individuals involved with CDM are empowered to improve their well-being by finding meaning and purpose in their lives, developing meaningful relationships, and fully engaging in activities. Through CDM, veterans inspire students, with a focus on fourth through twelfth grades, to live a life of service, leadership, and character.
Travis Manion Foundation is requesting a follow-on investment of $10,000 to support the continuation of our partnership as we impact more youth leaders in Florida. In our 2022 grant proposal, Travis Manion Foundation committed to impacting at least 6,750 youth in our Southeast Region through the Character Does Matter program and training a minimum of 55 new Veteran Mentors in the process. During this time, TMF far surpassed this goal, impacting approximately 8,525 youth in the region through 404 Character Does Matter events led by 51 Veteran Mentors. Approximately 500 of these youth were located in Florida specifically, compared to the previous fiscal year (2021-2022) which impacted only 103 local Florida youth. This growth is in large part due to the generosity of the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation. We look forward to continuing to build momentum and capacity in Florida in 2025. Thank you for your support and consideration.
