Project Title: Inside Out Youth Services General Operating Request
Project Description:
Inside Out Youth Services (IOYS) is excited to submit this request to the Hermanowski Family Foundation. Like you, IOYS is committed to improving the lives of young people via a transformative approach. We do this by building access, equity, and power within the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer, intersex, asexual, and two-spirit plus (LGBTQIA2+) young people, through leadership, advocacy, community-building, education, and peer support.
In 2023 IOYS was visited by 232 youth more than 3,000 times. We know youth who identify as LGBTQIA2+ are more likely to face harassment, contemplate suicide, and/or experience homelessness or housing insecurity. Our goal is to uplift these youth by offering transformative services that change these trajectories and allow LGBTQIA2+ youth to thrive.
With the support of the Hermanowski Foundation, we can continue to offer access to our drop-in center where youth can be their full selves. Our physical and community centers give youth access to services and programs through five thematic areas: mentorship & leadership, gender identity and expression, health, advocacy and community, creative expression, and queer joy. Across these areas, we include peer support groups, trauma-informed prevention and intervention, mental health services, gender-affirming support, sexual education, healthy relationships education, substance abuse prevention, civic engagement, workforce development, outdoor recreation, art expression, and access to food, clothing, and hygiene products.
As one youth stated, “Inside Out helps me express thoughts and feelings I am unable to express at home or anywhere else.” By providing youth with the tools to help encourage and support their wholeness we are providing transformative support to help them reach their full potential and leave behind the disparities too many within the queer community face.
